Blog upgrade time

2007
09.30

Want to get a BLOG that improve over time – and help the BLLG-system-creators improve their pride and joy?

A fine thing about Open Source tools is that one are able to help with debugging – making the world a tiny bit better each time. As a consequence of this, the 2.3-version of Wordpress contain a LOT of enhancements! This is the reason for this blog to be located at ketil.vestby.name, leaving vestby.name to other things.

Thanks to the Wordpress team, including the people developing the system, it is improving rapidly!

A solution for the firewall / network intrusion problem

2007
09.21

Tonight, I got a early copy of a book on firewalls, to read and review for No Starch Press. This got a solution for the problem described on this blog a few days ago: The tools for the script kiddies today are seriously heavy

The solution described in the book are elegant and simple: Combine different tools for network intrusion detection, with tools for network exploitation, and make them controle parts of the Iptables system (see the unreliable guides for more information about it, from the original head behind Iptables)

    Cain and Abel, be aware…

    2007
    09.13

Last night, I found a toolset named Cain & Abel. The impression about the programs were really impressive and equally scaring: They have made (and put out on the net) a easy tool for serious cracking. And it’s based on Wintendo, something that makes (almost) every kiddie use it.

I’ve never used serious Wintendo-based tools for this before, but maybe I’ll give it a try on my own computers – at least it gives me the opportunity to know that my systems are secured against the methods I’ve tried so far…

    :-)

The only question is: When Cain & Abel is released for Script Kiddies, what tools are for the other users?
